Recipes: Cooking With Lavender

Cooking with lavender is a piece of cake, literally! You don't have to be a chef to cook with lavender, just simply add it in as you would rosemary or sage. First question is, do you want to cook a sweet or a savory dish?

SWEET

- Delicate Lavender Cookies

- Lavender Lemonade

- Candied Lavender Pecans

- Lavender Cake Balls

Lavender Old Fashion Pound Cake:

3 cups of sugar, 2 sticks of butter softened, 1/2 cup Cisco, 3 cups of plain flour, 5 eggs, 1 cup of sweet milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and 1 tablespoon of culinary lavender. Cream butter, Cisco, sugar, and 3 eggs. Add flour and milk to butter and sugar mixture, then add in the other 2 eggs and vanilla. Mix together and then add 1 tablespoon of culinary lavender by grinding with hands first and then add to mixture. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour and 15 min. *You can drizzle lavender syrup on top of cake when cool if desire or add up to 3 tablespoons of culinary lavender to dough if taste desires.

- Roasted Lavender & Hazelnut-encrusted Salmon

 - Ham Fried Rice with Lavender

~Lavender Cider: Bring to boil 1 cup of apple juice and 1 tablespoon of culinary lavender. Once it comes to a boil take of stove and let stand to infuse lavender with juice for 20 minutes. Strain culinary lavender from juice and add to 1 gallon container with rest of apple juice. Place in warmer with 1 cup of Mullen spices to make cider. serve warm. Add 1 sprig of lavender and/or 1 stick of cinnamon to each cup.
